Scientific research shows that our environment is continually growing louder. This is a direct consequence of the increasing urbanization and the compacting of cities. Because of that, noise pollution is becoming increasingly worse and silence is actually becoming a rarity. That is bad news, as psychologists continue to find links between noise disturbance and stress. Intense noise is a source of physical and mental damage, something we have gravely underestimated until now. Silence, on the other hand, is healthy and can even heal. Because of this, silence will become the interior trend for the coming years.
Indeed: silence will become the new black. Over the next few years, acoustic comfort will claim a prominent spot in houses and interiors. Sound muting materials will become a must, just like rooms in which we can isolate ourselves for a while.
The interior design within this trend is partially inspired by chalets and cabins that are surrounded by nature. These are places that we associate with silence above all others. The colors are warm and homely, like brown and orange, but the 'chalet feeling' gets tempered with natural tints and an architectural influence. Sometimes, the result feels somewhat Japanese. Natural materials are used with care and soberly furnished rooms let the various textures shine optimally.
